The Potter's Notebook by Frank Giovinazzi, a historical novel set in 17th century Japan, is available on the Amazon Kindle platform and in paperback.
Set in 17th century Japan, The Potter's Notebook is the twin story of two boys - Shuji, who aims to become a master potter - and Hideaki, sent from the modern day to help his friend achieve his quest. Aided in their journey by the mysticism of a kindly Abbot and an ethereal blue bird, Shuji and Hideaki battle supernatural and human foes to overcome obstacles that threaten their goal to create beauty in a harsh world. But the toughest obstacles prove to be within, as both boys must marshal the skills of discipline and perseverance, as well as the eclectic art of communion with the spirit world, to realize their aims. Frank Giovinazzi began researching The Potter's Notebook in 1997, during a camping trip to the Arita region of Japan. During his travels, he observed master potters at their craft, visited the museums and historical sites dedicated to preserving the rich tradition of Japanese pottery and tramped among the hills where porcelain was introduced in the early 1600s. On returning to the United States, he completed his study of the period at the Sackler Gallery in Washington, D.C. Read Chapter 1 of The Potter's Notebook.
